What else you need to know about your DeutschlandTicket.

Not transferable to other persons

The DeutschlandTicket is non-transferable. It is not possible to take persons over the age of 6 with you on board free of charge. The local fare regulations apply to the carriage of bicycles and dogs. Children under the age of 6 continue to travel free of charge. If a regional provider does not offer free bicycle transport, a regionally valid additional ticket (ZusatzTicket) for bicycles can be bought.

  • In the VRR and VRS transport associations you can buy a bicycle ticket (FahrradTicket) for the respective transport association area on top of the DeutschlandTicket.
  • In the VRR and VRS regions, you can buy an additional ticket (ZusatzTicket) to upgrade to first class; it allows you to use first class areas on trains within the respective network area. Accordingly, if you wish to travel first class in another transport assocation’s area, you must purchase the respective additional tickets from them, subject to availability. Please note: The area in which you can travel first class is determined by the area of validity of the ZusatzTicket additional ticket (and not the DeutschlandTicket). This means that you cannot travel 1st class throughout Germany with an additional ticket (ZusatzTicket).
  • At present, there is no additional ticket that is valid throughout Germany for taking your bicycle with you on public transport . In the VRR and VRS regions, you can buy a bicycle ticket (FahrradTicket) for the respective network area on top of the DeutschlandTicket. A bicycle ticket that is valid across North Rhine-Westphalia has been available since July 1, 2023. It costs 49 euros a month and allows you to take your bike anywhere in NRW (but not throughout Germany).

*It is not valid on long-distance services (IC, EC, ICE). There are exceptions in some regions of Germany. The respective regional tariff applies on some IC/EC lines. Likewise, regional fares already apply on some lines abroad.
